The main mission of the Saturnino Lora Agricultural Production Cooperative (CPA) in the municipality of Contramaestre is to continue increasing the areas dedicated to the cultivation of fruit trees.

Projections where the diversification and quality of the productions as well as their yield are the main objectives to be fulfilled by this agricultural structure. One of those that implements the development of the fruit trees program in this eastern territory of the province of Santiago de Cuba.

Cooperative with development program

Reynaldo Bencosme Ginarte, president of the CPA argued in this regard (…) that the cooperative has a development program until 2030, and this year we plan to plant ten more hectares of guava. Six have been demolished, we will plant ten and so on until 2030, renewing the old fruit plantations that are there and continuing to increase. The objective is to become a purely fruit cooperative, we have a project for this year to plant two hectares of coconut, loquat and avocado. By 2030 we will become stronger in guava production.

Refer to the constraints that hinder the development of fruit programs.

“Irrigation, inputs, these are problems generated by the economic situation of the country and the blockade. The cooperative members are there with enthusiasm. They have already caught the rhythm of the fruit and that is what they give.”
