More than 1,800 cases of vulnerable families are currently identified in the district of Pueblo Nuevo in Contramaestre. Humanist work implemented by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro through different social programs at the beginning of this century.
Policy that has maintained its continuity in the attention to these people with disadvantages in our society and as recently argued by the president of the Republic of Cuba and first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez (…), this project needs some kind of updating or revitalization.
For this reason, effective work in the communities will depend to a large extent on the multisectoral role of the factors that affect this social policy.
Study of vulnerable families
In this regard, José Ángel Labrada Delfín, inter-coordinator of the district of Pueblo Nuevo, argued that (…) the work of social workers and the attention to these programs in the rural demarcation is going well. We have identified them according to different vulnerability profiles such as economic, health and housing, and all these families have undergone the corresponding study.
There are four social workers in charge of attending to the families of the district, how is the task distributed?
“This Popular Council is made up of twelve districts, the four workers attend to them jointly, but to speed up and better develop the task we each attend to three districts”.
In this way they respond to the needs of the District?
“Logically, from there we better identify the social problems, the vulnerable families in the different profiles.”
How do you work in the community to obtain results? You were telling me an important element that the work is closely related to that of the delegate.
“Today, social work is not achieved without the help of the delegate is fundamental empathy, the brotherhood that must have the social worker with the delegate to flow a better job. In addition we implement a social policy where all the factors of the community participate, where the inter-coordinator of the popular council presides it.”
“In that meeting that is held every month we evaluate most of the cases that we can evaluate and we try to give them a solution in the people’s council itself and from there the social work with the delegate, and the mass organizations that is fundamental for the work to flow and so there can be a consensus of all the parties.”
