Solar panels in Contramaestre for improved water distribution

Solar panels in Contramaestre for improved water distribution

The installation of solar panels for the pumping of drinking water is among the investments approved by the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources for this year in Contramaestre municipality.

The company Aguas Turquino is planning to change the power matrices, in a first stage, of nine of the 13 pumping systems in this eastern territory.

In addition to the solar panels, new pumps will also be replaced in order to ensure an efficient distribution of drinking water to the population. These first actions will have a greater impact on the town of Baire, taking into account the critical situation this town has had for several years.

Yordanis Rodríguez Coss, director of the Aqueduct in Contramaestre, explains.

“The Aguas Turquino company has already started the change of energy matrixes, systems that are already in Cuba. These systems with solar panels will be installed in a first stage: in Baire, La Carolina, Nito Ortega, Guaninao, Pueblo Nuevo and El Molino. As soon as all the resources required for each structure are completed, they will be installed as quickly as possible. With these changes of energy matrices, the company Aguas Turquino will save almost twenty-six million pesos in electric energy payments. This new equipment will give vitality to the water distribution service and will mainly benefit the town of Baire, where new equipment has not been installed for years. Some provinces of the country are already working with solar panels with good results”.

The installation of solar panels in the water pumping systems will also favor the saving of electricity, considering that the aqueduct company is the second largest consumer of electricity in the country.
