Psychology Professionals Discuss in Contramaestre

Psychology professionals in the municipality of Contramaestre held a meeting to celebrate Psychology Day in Cuba, observed annually on April 13th, the birthday of prominent Cuban thinker Enrique José Varona, a driving force behind the development of this science in the country.

The occasion provided an opportunity to exchange opinions about the profession’s work in the region, including key achievements in various health centers and communities, and presentations on current topics within the field.

They also discussed the challenges facing psychology today in Cuba, and particularly in the municipality itself, ranging from working with age and generational groups to addressing domestic violence.

In this regard, Hilda Almenares Camps, a Health Psychology Specialist in the region, commented that combating the stigma surrounding patients with psychological disorders is one of the most pressing issues for achieving adequate treatment and reaching a greater number of people in need of guidance and support.

For her part, Ailín Arévalo Arencibia, a specialist at the Clodomira Acosta Ferrales Maternity Home, emphasized the importance of psychological care during pregnancy, breastfeeding, and parenting in general, both for the pregnant woman and the rest of the family. She also highlighted the preventive role of mental health professionals in adolescent pregnancies.

In Contramestre, mental health and psychological well-being are priorities for professionals in the sector, who are responsible for safeguarding these issues in the region. From different centers, approaches, and population groups, their work benefits individuals and families in Contramestre.
