Contramaestre in difficulties with Water Supply

Water supply

Water supply to homes is one of the main difficulties currently facing the municipality of Contramaestre, given the nationwide power crisis following the tightening of the economic blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, and other measures that directly impact the well-being of the population.

In this eastern region, water sector authorities acknowledge the power outages as the main factor causing delays in pumping cycles. Marcial Pérez Naranjo, Director of the Turquino Water Company’s Basic Business Unit (UEB) in the municipality, explained:

“As a strategy, we will provide service to specific sectors, depending on the daily electricity availability. Even so, the water does not reach homes with the expected force, as it reaches considerable pressure. For this reason, we ask that residents collect water in containers to meet the most urgent needs and store as much as possible.”

“In the case of the Orlando Pantoja Hospital in our municipality, there has been no shortage of water, as it has been supplied by water trucks. We have been closely monitoring this and other priority centers in the area, such as the Maternity Home, polyclinics, and the nursing home, to ensure that public health services in Contramaestre are not interrupted.”

The official also commented that the higher elevations of the municipality present a more complex situation, as they require more time for service maintenance. These details allow for a better understanding of the strategy to be followed under the current conditions to guarantee the availability of this precious resource in all homes.
