An oil ship for Cuba campaign is being organized in Mexico

The José Martí Association of Cubans Residing in Mexico is preparing a campaign to send an oil ship to the island in support of the electric system, informed today the vice-president of the organization, Olivia Garza.

Talking to Prensa Latina, she said that the initiative will be officially presented on August 13, and will last until the same date in 2026, when the centenary of the birth of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, will be commemorated.

The association has been working, with more emphasis since the Covid-19 pandemic, on material contributions to the Caribbean country which, although they are not very large, contribute in some way to support the nation, especially the health system.

“We want there to be a greater effort and an impact that helps the national energy system, so necessary for the development that our people deserve. That is why we thought of doing this campaign, retaking a previous initiative that was given during the special period,” he explained.

The National Electric System of the Antillean nation, which has suffered significant damages in recent months, suffers the consequences of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba for more than six decades, a policy that has been intensified in recent years.

We are thinking of sending a ship of 400,000 barrels, which implies a great effort and work, said Garza, as he extended an invitation to the Mexican Movement of Solidarity with Cuba to join the initiative, so that both organizations will be conveners.

The campaign, he said, is part of the activities of the project Fidel, eternal and undefeated, a tribute of the Association for the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Commander in Chief, which will begin on May 19 with the presentation of a blog of the same name.

Garza participated this weekend in the 29th National Meeting of Solidarity with the island, organized by the Movement and attended by 280 delegates from Mexico, as well as diplomatic representatives from Cuba, Nicaragua, Venezuela and Vietnam, in addition to various organizations.
