Mandate of lay judges approved in Contramaestre 2024-2028

Lay judges in Contramaestre approved for a new term.

In compliance with what was agreed by the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba regarding the administration of justice by lay judges for a new four-year term, which covers the period 2024-2028, in Contramaestre the process for their selection and election was carried out in a broad exercise of democracy and with the participation of all sectors and organizations of the civil society of the territory.

In the municipality, 110 assemblies were held to complete the candidacy of lay judges, which resulted in an equal number of pre-candidates, of which 37 were ratified. In general, none of them appeared as a lawyer in the exercise of law for the performance of the administration of justice before the popular municipal court, institution that also issued its favorable endorsement in relation to the proposed candidates.

According to what recently transpired in the plenary of the eleventh ordinary session of the local governing body, said candidacy received unanimous approval, highlighting that 65.4 percent is made up of women and of the total of 110, 48 percent is the average age, and 70 percent ratified as lay judges for this new term.

Among them are doctors, teachers, technicians, workers, non-state workers, federated workers, cederistas, retirees, peasants, housewives and students.All of them are distinguished for maintaining a good attitude towards work and activities of social interest, good moral conditions and enjoy a good public opinion.

The respective administrative directorates are obliged to ensure the presence of the lay judge in the judicial body during the corresponding period. Due to its social importance, the function of the lay judge has priority over the usual work occupation performed by the person at his or her workplace.
