Mothers, Always Present in Our Lives

Mothers, Always Present in Our Lives

From conception to first steps; through fever and birthdays; in the blue scarf, at university graduation, in love, in friends, in the first job: Mom is always there. She’s not a spectator who merely watches from afar; she’s the driving force, the advisor, the one who applauds, the one who warns. Mom occupies an indispensable place.

“Mom” is a simple word, but it encapsulates the most genuine and selfless affection humanity has ever known. It’s a synonym for love, another four-letter word. It carries with it the responsibility of raising children, constant care, education… a task that is sometimes tiring, but worthy of recognition and respect. Families and many social dynamics benefit from this effort.

No gesture or expression can ever compensate for her sacrifice. In her words of affection, in her teachings, in her gaze that is both tender and firm, childhood finds a safe haven. It’s no wonder that “Mom” is one of the first words little ones utter when they begin to discover the world.

Certainly, there’s no single formula for what we call motherhood, as every life is different, but aren’t selflessness and sacrifice common to all? Isn’t a mother the great pillar of our existence? And amidst so much love, what can we give in return? Money, gifts? Those, though deserved, aren’t enough. We owe our mothers eternal gratitude and obedience. We owe them our values and even our way of thinking.

A mother isn’t just the one who kept us alive; she’s primarily responsible for choosing the path that transformed us into who we are today. May love reach all of them daily, but on this second Sunday of May, their special day, know that history and the future rest in their hands. Happy Mother’s Day.
