As May approaches, Cuba is getting ready to celebrate May Day once again, this time under the slogan “For Cuba, together we create”.
This is not a phrase chosen at random, nor a play on words that is pleasing to the ear, but a necessary action, in keeping with the times we live in.
To create, more than a metaphor, is a task of the first order in the current Cuban context, especially in the field of economy. It is synonymous of doing, of setting in motion. Innovative projects, the use of resources and the search for solutions to everyday problems are also ways of creating.
But these actions should not be carried out individually, not when the objective is to drive a whole country towards its well-being. That is why unity is essential, the word “together” that summons us to May Day. The Homeland is built with everyone, and in search of the good of all, as Martí thought in his time. Joining hands, joining efforts, that is today’s duty.
Some sacrifices may seem small, but their value is incalculable. The bus driver who stops at a bus stop, the doctor who encourages his patient, the teacher who strives to teach the lesson, the responsible, the enthusiastic, all of them create, create for Cuba, and their effort has a greater impact than they imagine.
May 1st is approaching; it is the great celebration of Cuban workers, and it is also a great day for the Cuban people.
