With a meeting presided over by the highest authorities of the municipal Assembly of People’s Power of Contramaestre, this January 19, the People’s Council of Patricio Lumumba was constituted for the exercise of government that by competence will be developed in the present 18th period of mandate initiated here in the presence of the process of municipal elections.
In Contramaestre, the conformation of the popular councils in this mandate began on the 9th and should conclude on the 24th of this month, a process that is being carried out in the presence of the delegates elected in each of the districts who, by ordinary voting among them, elect the president, who will have a professional character.
People’s Power and democracy
Since 1991, this structure of local power, the popular councils, has been created with the primary objective of guaranteeing a representation of the State in the community, to ensure the efficiency of production and services and to ensure the participation of the population in the control and supervision of the activity carried out by the entities located within their radius of action, as well as to know and process the concerns of their electors.
Up to the closing of this information, the secretariat of the organ in Contramaestre confirmed the conformation of 6 popular councils: Frank País, Baire, Pueblo Nuevo, Ruta Martiana, Los Pasos Xavier, Lumumba and Guaninao. In each of these districts, the presidents of this structure have been reelected by direct approval of the delegates corresponding to them.
In this 18th term of office, the popular councils from their respective districts in which they exercise jurisdiction, in Contramaestre, once again assume the mission of representing the interests of the people, strengthening the integrated community work and the search for solutions to local problems, among other tasks to validate the wisdom that the power of the people is exercised from the base.
