The Municipal Assembly of People’s Power of Contramaestre, meeting in plenary session during its 25th ordinary session of the current 18th term, urged the residents of the 162 districts that make up this jurisdiction in eastern Cuba to respond enthusiastically to and fully support a popular movement under the name “My Neighborhood for the Homeland.”
Echoing the agreement on this matter issued by the highest levels of the Cuban government, in Contramaestre the aforementioned movement will mobilize communities toward action on three strategic fronts, based on the particularities and complexities of each location and in coordination with state agencies and civil society organizations.
The first front is the Safe Neighborhood initiative, aimed at promoting popular participation in tasks related to national defense, security, and environmental protection. This includes Civil Defense, community policing, and crime prevention—issues of vital importance given the complex situation facing Cuba due to the ambitions of its enemies to the North.
Secondly, there is the Productive Neighborhood initiative, which seeks to strengthen local production and services to meet community needs. This involves incorporating new economic actors, both state and non-state, which currently comprise some 61 micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Contramaestre. In this area, it is essential to promote volunteer work in urban gardens, small plots, and other agricultural spaces, such as the production centers in the Baire, Bungo-La Venta, and Laguna Blanca People’s Councils, among other locations.
And the third is the Participatory Neighborhood initiative, which aims to encourage the entire revolutionary population to consciously engage in the transformation of their own communities, contributing to the strengthening of integrated community work and expanding popular control for the well-being of the citizenry.
For the residents of Contramaestre, joining this valuable initiative is a fitting popular response to honor the eternal Fidel Castro in the centennial year of his birth and to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the creation of the Organs of People’s Power. Among other objectives, it seeks to support the implementation of the Government’s Economic and Social Program for 2026.
