Fuels, illegalities and banking: core issues of the farmers’ congress

May 17, a victory for Cuban farmers

The thirteenth congress of ANAP, recently held in the capital of the country, was attended by a large representation of santiagueros. Among them was peasant and cooperative leader Alberto Del Toro Alarcón, who told journalist Ricardo Chacón Rubio about his main experiences at the event.

With a wide experience in peasant tasks from the responsibility of producer to that of leader of a cooperative, Del Toro Alarcón explains the most debated topics in the peasant event.

The aforementioned problems of the farmers innSantiago de Cuba province are in tune with the efforts being made today in the Cuban countryside and the tangible results they are having.

The issue of theft and illegal slaughter of livestock also has a negative impact on peasant activity. It is not only the progressive elimination of animals linked to production, but also the impact on the security and stability of families in the countryside.

The santiagueros peasants have remained attached to their main task: the production of food for the people, even in the worst circumstances. This attitude deserves a symmetrical response.
