One of the greatest complexities that the municipality of Contramaestre is going through at present, is the supply of drinking water to the population of this town, which suffers from fuel shortage, which significantly limits the pumping of the precious liquid, to reach the population through the distribution network.
Faced with this situation that affects us all, the main authorities of the municipality work with dedication to solve the problem, a moment seized by this reporter to contact Yoendris Oconor Reyes, First Secretary of the Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba in this locality, the issue related to water in Contramaestre.
Journalist: How is the municipality facing the water problem in the territory?
Interviewee: From the situation of the country itself, of which we are not unaware, on the fuel deficit, which does not allow us to supply water to the population since there is no current generation, we have created a set of measures to deal with this situation, which for us is the most complex of recent times. Due to the limitations of diesel, we cannot generate electricity as we want for pumping water and supplying the Quartermaster’s services; really, the issue is complex, but we are working tirelessly, trying to solve the water problem, however, despite the difficulties, we have seen in the town solidarity among neighbors, who unite to help each other, who has a well allows those who do not have it to reach the same and satisfy the need, others go to the river, while some employ turbines and thus solve difficulties.
P: In which direction are the Party and the government working now?
E: We have been protecting the electrical circuit where the pump is, for several days, to give enough time to fill the main tank, so that water reaches the population, mainly the hospital, children’s circles, schools, the people’s council of Maffo, and thus reach some parts of the city.
Q: What do you hope for the next few days in relation to water?
E: As long as the pumping electrical circuit is still protected, we will pass the water to other sectors of the population, while in the case of the Popular Council of America, affected by the breakdown of a transformer, with several days’ damage, Efforts to complete the work being carried out in the affected area are multiplying.
P: In these circumstances, what is the message to the people?
E: Be very careful with the use of water from the new wells that are opened, it will be able to be used in other housing activities, until it is certified by public health, it cannot be drunk because it may be contaminated with other groundwater and thus prevent diseases. For the rest, ask the population to calm down, apologize for the bad weather and maintain, as always, trust in the Party and the Government, which we fight and make all necessary steps to solve the problem.
