Cuban Foreign Minister affirms that the measures announced by the U.S. are limited

Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Cuba’s Foreign Affairs Minister, affirmed today that the measures announced by the United States (U.S.) government are limited and do not reverse the impact of the economic blockade imposed by that country on the island nor its inclusion in the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism.

From his account in X, the also member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party pointed out that such measures seek to create divisions within the society of the largest of the Antilles.

Likewise, he denounced that the U.S. government continues to finance disinformation operations to hold the Cuban government responsible for the severe damages caused to the people for 65 years.

“Measures announced by the U.S. government are limited. They do not reverse the cruel impact and economic asphyxiation imposed on Cuban families by the application of the genocidal blockade and the inclusion in the list of State sponsors of terrorism.”

“These measures seek to create divisions within Cuban society, while the U.S. government finances disinformation operations to hold the Cuban government responsible for the severe damages caused to the Cuban people for 65 years.”

Johana Tablada, deputy director general for the United States at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, assured that Cuba will not hinder the measures announced by the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control, which are aimed at favoring the private sector, even though they are limited and do not benefit the whole of society.

On May 28, the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the U.S. Treasury Department announced that it “authorizes entrepreneurs in Cuba to open and use U.S. bank accounts through the Internet to carry out financial transactions” from the island and that it seeks to “promote Internet freedom in Cuba, support independent entrepreneurs in the private sector and expand access to certain financial services for the Cuban people.”

However, Cuba remains on the list of State sponsors of terrorism, which limits financial transactions with international banks, hinders the arrival of shipping companies to Cuban ports, and the U.S. government intensifies the unilateral coercive measures and interference of the blockade.
