More than 60 years after its founding, the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) continues to be a bastion of dignity and courage for Cuban women, inspired by the example of great heroines throughout history. Under this premise, the provincial event commemorating the 66th anniversary of the organization was held in Contramaestre.
The gathering, presided over by the highest political and governmental authorities of the province of Santiago de Cuba and the municipality of Contramaestre, took place in the Historical Park of the Baire People’s Council, a site that strongly resonated with the renewed struggles for independence in 1895.
The occasion was also used to recognize the municipalities that emerged as winners in the current phase of the emulation process, with Contramaestre earning the distinction of leading the way for its results, both economic and social, and in recognition of the historical legacy of this territory.
On behalf of the people of Contramaestre, and especially the women, she expressed her gratitude for the recognition of the municipality’s efforts to achieve greater local development, implement programs that benefit the economy, and contribute to the well-being of families.
In her keynote address, Elena Castillo Rodríguez, General Secretary of the Federation of Cuban Women in the province, reaffirmed the leading role of women in the nation’s history and their contribution to building society, as well as the need to maintain the gains achieved in terms of rights and the fight for equality.
In this way, Contramaestre, representing the rest of the province, emphasizes the role of women in the present day and commemorates the creation of an organization designed to benefit women throughout the country, as well as their legal and institutional protection.
