Diversifying production based on agroecology is a priority for Cuban farmers in the face of the population’s demand for food. This strategy is extended in the Moisés Popa Credit and Service Cooperative of this Santiago territory, where producers like Victor Mora Veranes, assume the daily challenge of achieving variety and quantity in their crops.

The dry season is almost over, it is still not raining on Victor Mora Veranes’ agro-ecological farm and the threat of rain has remained a mere threat.

However, this experienced producer from Contramaestre is convinced that the solution to the demand for food is in the Cuban countryside.

Victor’s lands are planted with a wide variety of viands, vegetables and grains and in order to expand his production he built a protected cultivation house, built a water reserve tank for irrigation and set up a shed for raising rabbits, which he feeds with Creole fodder produced on his own farm.

His results are based on the use of biological products as the main alternative to the lack of inputs.

This farmer prefers to say with facts, his vocabulary is the activity linked to the land. An important part of the products consumed by his family is produced in his home. Thus begins another day in the farm of Victor Mora Veranes, with the first sip of coffee brewed in the “empinador” from which the aroma that enamors each of his mornings is released.
