Cuba reiterates respect for religious freedom

Cuba’s Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez reiterated today through his account on X, that the country’s Constitution enshrines the secular nature of the State and prohibits discrimination for reasons of religious beliefs.

The foreign minister said that in the Caribbean nation every person has the right to profess or not religious beliefs, to change them and to practice the one of his or her preference.

Recently, Rodriguez Parrilla said on the same social network that the repeated inclusion of Cuba in unilateral reports of the United States responds to the need to justify its inhumane measures of siege and economic war against the island.

He added that the presence of his country on U.S. lists of terrorism, human rights and religious freedom is not linked to the exemplary performance of the Caribbean nation.

In January, Cuba and Nicaragua were once again included in a list, unilaterally created by Washington, of countries that in the opinion of the US government have “participated in or tolerated particularly serious violations of religious freedom”.

However, according to Caridad Diego, head of the Office of Attention to Religious Affairs of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, there is ample religious freedom in the largest of the Antilles.

The official recalled that only at the beginning of the year multiple activities of various denominations were carried out; for example, the practitioners of the Abacuá religion celebrated their Day, for which they carried out various activities.

Likewise, on January 2, the Yorubas presented the letter of the year, and on the first day of 2024 the Catholics celebrated masses for Peace.
