Contramaestre recovers from heavy rain

Contramaestre is recovering after a weekend of heavy rains, which caused sleepless nights, but no human losses. Today the material is recovering.

Floods, landslides and mudslides were events caused by the weather situation in the territory and caused numerous economic losses to the state and material losses to the people, but fortunately there were no deaths.

The Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Dam reached 93 percent of its total filling capacity and was about to spill, a situation that was favorable since it was depressed.

In Contramaestre six communities were cut off by the flooding of rivers, Guaninao, Xavier Los Pasos, Ruta Martiana, Laguna Blanca and La Torcaza. The road between Baire and Los Negros was also cut off, although work is already underway for its recovery. The most complex situation was experienced in the popular council of Baire where floods reached the interior of houses in places such as El Transformador, Avenida 10, Abisinia, among others.

As a result of the heavy rains in this southeastern municipality of Santiago de Cuba, housing, agriculture, livestock and poultry farms have been affected, and the electric company quantifies damages to electrical transformers, poles and power lines, many of which have already been reestablished. On the other hand, the Telecommunications Company ETECSA in the locality does not report any damage.

In view of the complex panorama that was presented due to the fall of more than 300 millimeters of rainfall, the authorities of the province and the municipality toured the affected areas to verify the damages and left specific indications for the recovery work, always insisting on trying to avoid the transmission of diseases such as dengue and acute diarrhea as a result of the rains.
