Am I doing well, Camilo?

Am I doing well, Camilo?

The story of the little hero who survived Hurricane Oscar touches many children in Contramaestre, who these days are searching among their belongings for various clothes and items to help Abram Daniel Gonzalez Hernandez, 12 years old, who was severely affected by the merciless hurricane.

The news of the survival of the child, whose house was flooded and who had to take refuge on the roof of his house with his family, caused concern in the municipality of San Antonio del Sur, Guantanamo, in the early hours of Sunday, October 20.

The force of the storm also caused Abram’s house to sink, separating him from his mother as he struggled to stay safe. In the midst of the disaster, the little boy was swept out to sea, where a coconut tree struck him, further complicating the danger.

But as fate would have it, despite the cold and the danger, the boy clung to the vegetation and reached the shore, where neighbors helped him the next day and took him to the Pedro Agustín Pérez Provincial Hospital.

Signs of sepsis in a wound on his left leg indicated surgical debridement of the cut, and fortunately it was determined that there were no bone or muscle injuries. The operation was successful, and after 16 hours of evolution, Abram began to show a favorable state of health.

Moved by the story of the survivor, in a unique October of flowers and seas for Camilo Cienfuegos, whose disappearance cannot be taken to the depths of the waters, the children of Contramaestre contribute their suitcase to make it reach little Abram, also in homage to the Lord of the Vanguard.

With great detachment, humility, altruism and passion, the 10-year-old jimaguas, Manuel Alejandro and Daniela Sofia, carry in their backpacks on October 28th, sweaters, shorts and some toys, because they know that children like Abram Daniel and many others have lost their clothes, their toys, their pencils, their notebooks and their textbooks.

Camilo Cienfuegos, accompanies these twins back to school this Monday, who are examples of kindness and love in the name of the solidarity of the people in difficult moments of the homeland, where the values of the hero of Yaguajay inspire in circumstances that require understanding and humanism.

This model of child solidarity for Abram Daniel Gonzalez, the brave little boy who survived Oscar, is undoubtedly a revolutionary greatness of the new generation, which will not only go to rivers and seas with flowers to remember an immense man, but will ask teachers and families: Am I doing well, Camilo?
