The province of Santiago de Cuba has started the 2022-2023 tobacco planting campaign. A new strategy that includes reducing areas and raising yields will characterize the current stage in which, despite resource limitations, the Santiago leaf growers aim at achieving yields of 1.5 tons per hectare.

This is a strategy to obtain higher tobacco yields in the midst of resource limitations.
Of the Santiago municipalities, Contramaestre is the one that will plant the largest amount of land with the participation of 23 producers in 38 hectares, although other Santiago municipalities also contribute to the campaign.
The province of Santiago de Cuba has guaranteed the necessary resources for this campaign. Santiago’s tobacco growers intend to fulfill the planting plans by the end of the year.
The first leaves are already being sown in Santiago de Cuba, a campaign to which the eastern tobacco growers put joy and commitment.
