According to the provisions of Law number 127, Cuban Electoral Law, 486 areas in Contramaestre were determined for the nomination of candidates, a process prior to the municipal government elections, called by the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba for November 27, 2022.
The planned number of 486 assemblies to exercise the right to nominate candidates for delegates to the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power of Contramaestre is representative of the 161 districts and the 13 people’s councils of this eastern Cuban jurisdiction.
This process, which covers all the neighborhoods and communities of Contramaestre’s geography, makes it possible that in the exercise of socialist democracy, candidates have been proposed on the basis of merit, revolutionary trajectory and capacity to represent the interests of the people.
Candidates, results of democracy
In the presence of the municipal elections called for next November 27, of the total number of nominees as candidates for delegates of the People’s Power, those who obtain more than 50 percent of the valid votes, directly and secretly cast at the polls, will be elected. For these elections, unlike those of a general nature, voters will only vote in their place of residence for the candidates nominated in the college to which they correspond.
As part of the preparations for the government’s municipal elections, an essential role must be played in Contramaestre by the mass organizations at the level of neighborhoods and communities to guarantee, together with the district electoral authorities, the quality of the voter lists and their respective updating through house-to-house visits.
In this territory, which exceeds 81 thousand voters, between October 21 and the 8th of the following month, the schedule of candidate nomination assemblies will be developed in order to leave everything ready for the publication of the biographical synthesis and photo of the candidates on November 15.
