Havana, Apr 4 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel congratulated the Union of Young Communists (UJC) and the José Martí Pioneers Organization (OPJM), on the occasion of the respective anniversaries of their foundations today.
“Happy day to Cuban children and youth,” said the head of state through his account on X, along with an image showing him with children, adolescents and young people.
According to Díaz-Canel’s comments on the social network, “April 4 will always be a day of celebration for those of us who were, who are and who will be, proud pioneers of the OPJM and committed militants of the UJC”.
On April 4, 1961, the Union of Rebel Pioneers was born, which later assumed the name of Union of Pioneers of Cuba and during the Third Congress of the UJC, in 1977, became the current OPJM.
The organization develops in children and adolescents the interest for study, social responsibility and love for the homeland, among other values.
Exactly one year later, in 1962, the UJC was formed, following a proposal made by the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, during the closing of the First Congress of the then Association of Young Rebels.
In addition to Díaz-Canel’s, other government and party leaders of the Caribbean nation also published congratulatory messages on various platforms.
