The National Institute of Sports and Recreation, founded on February 23, 1961, under Law 936 and with its national headquarters located in the Coliseum of the Sports City in Havana, represented one of the most promising projects for Cuban sports.
Under the principle proclaimed by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro that “sports is a right of the people”, this organization has worked since its foundation until today, accumulating successes in all the tasks of its work.
In March 1962, the new institution issued a Resolution prohibiting professionalism in any sport practiced in Cuba, and then began to develop a giant movement that would reach all parts of the island, with a primary goal of raising the quality of life.
Inder has a large specialized technical force made up of physical education teachers, sports coaches, physical trainers, recreation promoters and others, to guarantee the attention to the population.
As a tangible result of INDER’s work, Cuba, an underdeveloped nation subjected to an unjust economic, commercial and financial blockade by the United States, has achieved a place among the world’s sports powers, whether in the Olympic Games, Pan American Games or World Championships.
Therefore, let us celebrate in style the 64th anniversary of Inder, and congratulations to every man and woman who have contributed their grain of sand in the realization of a social project, which still works to preserve its achievements, always betting on the welfare of the body and the healthy mind of the population, from children to the elderly.
