Vilma Espín is the eternal President who accompanies Cuban women to continue opening roads, she is the eternal inspiration that leads the great work, she is the invincible warrior escort of the best destinies.
Sixty-four years since that foundational August and the Revolution is grateful for her worth; without her presence nothing is complete, her protective mantle helps to counteract sorrows and her love protects and conceals in different circumstances.
Since that August 23, 1960, the prejudices, marginalization and taboos of a colonial past first and neocolonial later that belittled the rights of women were left behind.
On that day, the Federation of Cuban Women was born with a clear light of transformation, with renewing energies, with exquisite sensitivity, with the certainty that they would be a bastion in defense of the revolutionary work.
From that memorable August 23, women of all ages and sectors merged to make their feats a reality, another life, another work, new missions.
Enterprising paths were opened, thanks to these federated women grouped in an organization with a different history. The Literacy campaign, the creation of the Day Care Centers and the Ana Betancourt schools for peasant women, bear the imprint and power of these women.
Sixty-four years have passed and the feminine protagonism reverberates in fields and cities, where the hoe contributes to the feeding of the people, the militia women contribute to the defense of the nation, and social workers help vulnerable families with the benefits of a program.
Other tasks speak of the commitment and responsibility of the Federation of Cuban Women to update the economic model, to ratify the equal rights of women protected in the Code of Families, to bring necessary transformations in the face of the imperialist siege that stalks us.
The federated Cuban women: internationalists, educators, sportswomen, artists, agriculturalists, engineers, doctors, scientists, from their diverse tasks they imprint courage, love, sacrifice, without renouncing to being mothers, girlfriends, wives, companions.
With Vilma’s example and Fidel’s legacy, their creativity stands out, solidarity prevails and new dreams unite them to continue leaving a distinctive stamp in Cuba and the world. 64 years after that August 23rd, the FMC continues to conquer the future.
