On July 26th the world celebrates a special day dedicated to those who are the pride and strength of the new generations: grandparents.
The chosen date has religious roots that lead us to Joachim and St. Anne, recognized as the grandparents of Jesus Christ, therefore, the choice of this celebration is not luck or chance, it is based on the festivities for the birthday of the parents of the Virgin Mary, thus marking an opportunity to celebrate with all the grandparents of the world.
Today, the celebration gives us the opportunity to care for and love grandparents, those unconditional beings that mark the childhood and education of many. Beyond the religious meaning, the chosen date highlights the value and importance of grandparents, full of wisdom, love, respect and traditions within the family. We turn to them in our hardest moments, when there is no room for error, we look to them for the right advice.
Their worthy and necessary role goes beyond caring for grandchildren, they pass on a historical legacy, teach us essential values and weave our identity, culture and family heritage.
The celebration of Grandparents’ Day also seeks to recognize them, to reward them with our affection but above all with our understanding. Grandparents occupy a special and very sensitive place in the heart of the family, they imprint a magic that makes them unique and eternal, their memory is a source of tender life that will help us in the education and upbringing of our children.
They are distinguished by their passion, their infinite patience, their timely lessons, their understanding, their subtle way of making themselves indispensable, disguising the harshest scolding in a wave of kindness.
Celebrating Grandparents’ Day is a way of paying off the debt of love we owe them.
