Cuban President Speaks at Anti-Inflation Summit in Mexico

President of Cuba analyzes electricity generation situation

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel spoke today at the Summit of Latin American and Caribbean Presidents convened by Mexico to discuss high prices in the region.

In his speech, the Caribbean nation’s head of state called for facilitating and expanding the exchange of goods and eliminating customs duties and other non-tariff barriers, according to Josefina Vidal, the island’s deputy foreign minister, on Twitter.

He also argued in favor of barter trade, a compensation modality based on the exchange of goods and services between the importer and the exporter without any movement of funds.

According to the official, Díaz-Canel also advocated promoting the exchange of essential services and cooperation to increase food production.

He urged to take advantage of the productive and industrial capacities installed to contribute to the complementarity among countries and to promote the transfer of technology for food production.

The President of the island called to address the connectivity of maritime and air transportation, as well as to expand the proposals coming out of the Summit to other countries in the region.

He offered to those present his country’s vast experience in the health sector.
