The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, after visiting this April 11 important economic entities of Contramaestre, a municipality in the province of Santiago de Cuba, followed by the member of the Political Bureau, Roberto Morales Ojeda, had a contact with locals to whom he expressed that Contramaestre has enormous productive, economic, social potential and a diverse economic activity.
The tour began at the America Fish Farm, created 27 years ago with the objective of guaranteeing the production of fish for local consumption. There he learned about the change in the corporate purpose of this entity when it failed to meet its plan of six million fingerlings due to the poor condition of the ponds.
The Farm is carrying out an extensive investment process that includes its 14 ponds, of which four have already been completed, so the President expects to see a greater production in his future visit.
Next, Díaz-Canel and Morales Ojeda arrived at the Rolando Ayub Coffee Processing Plant, belonging to the Biocubacafé Joint Enterprise, where they exchanged with workers who select the best beans by hand. There, the President was interested in learning about the training of these women workers who, once they are in front of the table and the beans, do not take their eyes off an exquisitely handmade purpose.
The dignitary also visited the Contramaestre Honey Processing Plant of the Cuban Apiculture Company, where he and his entourage learned that, although in 2023 the plan was fulfilled, the labor collective had losses; among other causes, because not all the necessary honey could be collected, and there were problems with fuel.
The purpose of these visits made by the President of the nation is to evaluate the development of the different territories and contribute to the search for solutions to their particular problems based on local potentialities and the contribution from the central level.
