Fishermen´s Day was held in Contramaestre

Province Act for the Day of the Fishing Industry Workers was held in Contramaestre

Under the premise that energy is born with conviction, the men and women of the Fishing Industry of Santiago de Cuba, celebrated their Provincial Act for the Fishermen´s Day (Including all fishing industry workers), which was held in the municipality of Contramaestre.

The El Guineo fishing zone, located in the town of Maffo, was the scene of the meeting, a labor collective that has contributed by the end of the first quarter of 2024, through the capture of fish of various species, with the feeding of the people of Santiago de Cuba, as well as the guarantee of medical diets for those who demand this protein.

Francisco Acosta Acosta, Director of the company Pescasan, while speaking, spoke about the challenges of the fishing industry adjusted to the hard times, which require a greater dedication to be true protagonists in innovation in order to solve the difficulties they face every day.

In the provincial act for the Day of the Workers of the fishing sector, the recognition on behalf of the National Union of Workers of the Food and Fishing Industry, to workers with a meritorious record of service in the fulfillment of their responsibilities was transcended.

With more than half a century of working life and relevant results in his activity, the 50th Anniversary Seal was awarded to Alberto Subert Semanat, a man of enormous virtues and transcendence in the fishing guild of Santiago.

On the other hand, the fishing zone El Guineo and the Santiago Industrial Processing Plant, were awarded as the best collectives at the provincial level, for their relevant results in the capture and industrialization of fish, in addition to the sense of belonging to the activities they carry out.

A significant moment in the celebration was the reading of the Call for the First of May, presided by the central slogan “For Cuba together we create” and inserted in the organic process of the Twenty-second Congress of the Cuban Workers’ Confederation.

For 2024, the main objectives of Santiago de Cuba’s Fisheries are focused on cultivating, catching and industrializing platform species, in correspondence with the fulfillment of the plans, in order to achieve economic recovery and respond to the production of food for the population.
