Food Industry in Contramaestre diversifies its productions

The production of the food industry in Contramaestre is diversifying despite the obstacles posed by the U.S. blockade to the acquisition of raw materials abroad. Workers in the sector are focused on creating greater offers to achieve sustainability and the necessary commercialization of various products in the domestic market and as financial health for the farming sector.

Amauris Cabrera Álvarez, director of the Basic Food Unit of Contramaestre, said that the economic-productive strategy is being expanded with alternatives focused on local potentialities. Cabrera Álvarez, top executive of the food sector in this eastern Cuban territory, also explained to the local press that the diversification of production is also part of supplying the deficit of products agreed in the plan at the end of May 2022, in several of its assortments: bread, cookies, candies and mayonnaise, among others.

In bakeries, creameries, candy factories, food polygons and biscuit factories, the collective response to the limitations and challenges faced by the national economy is based on work variants to guarantee several items: cassava flour for gofio and cassava, liquors, wines, vinager, as well as dry candies and nougat made from sugar cane guarapo (sugar cane sugar cane syrup). They also incorporate sacharin for animal consumption.
