Periódico Patria Gestated by José Martí in order to promote through its pages the purpose of the Cuban Revolutionary Party (PRC) to achieve the total independence of Cuba and Puerto Rico from Spanish rule through armed struggle. This publication saw the light of day in New York City on March 14, 1892 and its last issue was number 522, dated December 31, 1898.
At the time this newspaper was founded, José Martí was one of the best known journalists in Latin America for his work in important publications such as El Partido Liberal of Mexico and La Nación of Buenos Aires, among others.
Patria became the voice of the Cuban Revolutionary Party also founded by José Martí to organize the Necessary War to overthrow the Spanish colonialism and achieve the national independence and sovereignty.
