Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel expressed the support and solidarity of the Caribbean island with his counterpart Claudia Sheinbaum and the people of Mexico in the face of the pressure measures of the U.S. executive branch.
In his account in X, the president wrote: “all our solidarity and support to President Claudia Sheinbaum, her people and government, in the face of the slander of the US government to justify its interfering actions and pressure measures against Mexico, which harm its sovereignty and threaten regional stability and peace”.
The Aztec nation, along with Canada and China, face from this Saturday the elevation between 10 and 25 percent of tariffs on products sold in the US market, one of the campaign promises of President Donald Trump.
The White House tenant accuses his counterpart of being linked to drug cartels operating in Mexican territory without any proof, and also blames the Central American nation for the illicit trade of fentanyl and the irregular flow of migrants to the North American country.
Sheinbaum’s government, as a countermeasure, activated trade reciprocity plans by taxing up to 25 percent also products from its neighbor that are distributed in Mexico.
Likewise, the Mexican head of state responded with a firm stance by demanding Washington to take action in its own territory against the overflowing internal trafficking of arms and drugs.
