The Contramaestrian workers’ movement has called for the efficient use of the plots, orchards or areas that those workers’ collectives have for their own self-consumption.
This issue has been discussed in different union meetings among the members of the workers’ organization. Currently in the Santiago municipality there are several work centers that have areas for the self-consumption of the entities themselves.
The El Sol factory, which belongs to the food sector, is one of the entities that fulfills this mission. For thirteen years, this workers’ collective has been taking advantage of all the cultivable areas in its surroundings.
Yucca, sweet potato, vegetables, among other crops, are produced on this plot of land. To this end, the workers of this combined Contramaestrian food industry guarantee the production obtained there with the cleaning and care of the different plantations.
To take advantage of the idle plots of land that several Contramaestrian centers have and that today are not used will continue to be the call of the workers’ movement of this eastern territory.
