Contramaestre hospital under refurbishing

With 36 years of service to the population, to be celebrated this coming July 22, the Orlando Pantoja Tamayo General Teaching Hospital in the eastern municipality of Contramaestre needs to be renovated in most of its facilities.

The medical institution founded by the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, is receiving with the support of organizations, entities and companies of the territory, led by the Government and the Party of the city, a restoration in the different rooms, departments and services that will provide better comfort and care to patients and their families.

The constructive intervention, which aims to contribute to change the image of the hospital and improve all its services, is carried out with the voluntary contribution of the companies, which are distributed by blocks covering all the floors of the institution.

Vidiana Soto Cuesta, Head of the Organization and Information Department at the municipal government headquarters, tells us about the actions being carried out on the second floor of the hospital and the companies involved.

“Here intervene the Constructive Maintenance Company, the Administrative Unit of Culture Assurance, the National Institute of Sports and Recreation, in the latter two cases with labor for painting and sanitation. Today we are surveying the lighting fixtures, switches and outlets that are affected in all the rooms on this second floor, in this case surgery, respiratory, miscellaneous and gastro. Subsequently, we would go on to lift the doors that are in poor condition. The respiratory room is being painted, and two cubicles and the corridors are still pending”.

This initiative, which is the only one of its kind in the province of Santiago de Cuba, also entails facing the material and financial limitations of the “Orlando Pantoja” in Contramaestre caused by the unjust blockade to which the United States government has subjected the Cuban people for more than 60 years.
