Contramaestre prioritizes assistance to families in situation of vulnerability

In Contramaestre, actions aimed at community social development and improvement of people’s quality of life are the strategic lines assumed by the Municipal Administration Council, according to Tania Pérez Saumell, Municipal Mayor. The priority is to assist families in situation of vulnerability, and 5,61 families have been identified.

This figure includes families that are classified as vulnerable due to having been affected by natural events, as well as those suffering from serious economic limitations, and others facing social and health situations, among other causes.

According to confirmations from the Local Administration Council to the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power of Contramaestre, in this eastern Cuban jurisdiction, 1,875 families have been protected, with 3,207 beneficiaries, of whom 44 are mothers of children with severe disabilities. In addition, some 3,145 people have received monetary benefits, including the elderly and the disabled.

As part of the actions undertaken in the territory to address cases of vulnerability, the government has provided 407 families with some type of resources for the home, while 42 elderly people are protected through the Grandparents’ Homes, assuming full payment for receiving this service.

Likewise, 3,395 vulnerable people have benefited from the World Food Program, and slightly more than that number of people assisted by Social Security have been reached with the delivery of modules with food products. In addition, 449 single mothers with three or more children under 17 years of age have been linked to employment.

In terms of assistance to vulnerable cases, in Contramaestre, the development of culture, sports and recreation programs in communities sensitive to different economic and social problems is positive, achieving the combination of activities, which have helped to some extent, to raise the spirituality of the inhabitants, including settlements of the Turquino Plan or mountain settlements.

However, in spite of what has been achieved in attention to the diversity of problems of vulnerable families and in the midst of the economic limitations currently faced, which impact the daily life of the people, in Contramaestre, it is necessary to continue paying special attention to situations of vulnerability, testing from the institutional level, initiatives that together with integrated community work help to improve the continued operation of social programs that exist today in the country.
