During the summer, when the heat intensifies, is when we make more use of electricity consuming appliances. If we want greater stability in such vital service, especially at this time of the year, it is required that we do our bit to save electricity.
Some people are of the opinion that if blackouts occur, why should we save so much. But you should know that the more we save, the smaller the generation deficit will be.
In conversation with Rolando Quiñones, energy expert in Contramaestre, who called on the population to stimulate awareness of the need to save. He also referred to the measures to be adopted, both in the residential sector and in the state sector, to contribute to save electricity and thus to reduce the undesired blackouts.
Saving electricity partly depends on popular awareness
“At this stage the warning to the population is directed to the need of saving, a conscious saving because it is the only way we are going to have to reduce blackouts. Today we are asking the state sector to take extreme saving measures so that the residential sector is not affected. We call attention to the lighting. One lighted luminaire is equivalent to the expenditure of a company. Today the effort made by the state to avoid blackouts is infinite. Today there must be an awareness of the people, of the workers, of everybody. Changes are being made in the work, we are trying to make the most of the time, we are trying to give flexibility so that everybody reduces the consumption of electricity, but it is necessary that we all work together”. We are making changes in the work, we are trying to take advantage of the time, we are trying to give flexibility so that everybody reduces the consumption of electricity, but it is necessary that we all work together”.
Journalist: What is the behavior of the use of energy carriers in the municipality at the moment?
Rolando Quiñones: “The municipality must consume an average of 326 MW. Today we are not asking the municipality to be framed in a determined plan, but to save. At the moment we are somewhat relaxed, because the blackouts have decreased, but it must be mentioned that the CIMEX chain must take extreme saving measures. The MYPIMES are today obliged to save. Today we do not want to affect any type of service, but if a restaurant service is being provided and there is no one there, the best thing to do is to turn off the split. To the welders, we ask them to try to respect the peak hours, because at that time, the demand exceeds so much that any expenditure above the plan causes an automatic trip and therefore leads to a blackout. The pumping points that are in charge of sending water to Santiago de Cuba are high consumers, as well as Trópical S.A. which is a mixed company with a continuous production process. Tell the population that there will be an improvement in fuel”.
