Emilio Selin, body and soul devoted to the power sector

Electric power service in Contramaestre has a name: Emilio Selín

It is impossible to talk about the history of the power sector in Contramaestre and beyond, if we do not refer to a man who has devoted his working life to dignify the work of electricians.

Currently, he works as a technician in the power operations area. With his knowledge and skills he contributes to give continuity to the service, developing the programmed maintenance, the rehabilitation of the networks and the electrical circuits of the territory, adopting, for it, the corresponding safety and protection measures.

He is Emilio Selín Ganén, an electric power engineer who, for more than 35 years, has performed different tasks in favor of the proper functioning of the entity and the welfare of the population.

Electric power has a name in Contramaestre

“I started working in the electric power in 1988, when I was 24 years old. I had training in several courses, between the 80’s and 90’s, including a higher level course at the MIMBAS national school. They prepared me for all the engineering and distribution activity and the activity of continuous improvement of services and already in ’90 I joined as head of operations in the municipality. I was appointed by the government and the party to the construction of the hydroelectric plant, where I was for one year and I was the first investor in that project and I left it at the completion stage.

I joined the network activity here again from 1994 to 1997 and from that year until 2009 I was the director of the Basic Territorial Unit. From then until 2011 I was a technician in the province of Granma in Jiguaní. There I continued my work with a mission between 2011 and 2013 attending a contingent in Venezuela and 14 states.

When I returned I was the director of networks in Santiago de Cuba, where I was in charge of the 55th anniversary of the Revolution in the Céspedes Park and later I was in charge of the 500th anniversary of the city. When I returned to Contramaestre I went back to work as a technician, I was for two years as chief of operations until October of last year and at this moment I am once again as a technician to continue preparing the young people who are coming up and to give continuity to the work of the electricians in this municipality”.

Journalist: Do you think that the population is grateful for the work done by the electricians?

“I think so. The population recognizes, especially in the last moments that we have lived, because with the limitation of resources, we have faced complex situations, especially in the case of the transformers of the residential sector, because before the breakage or lack of this one, we have taken alternatives, like removing it of state entities so that the population can count on the electricity service”.
