Central America Libre to return to sugar production

Contramaestre prepares students for sugarcane harvesting programs

The reincorporation of the America Libre de Contramaestre sugar industry in the province of Santiago de Cuba is a priority for the sugar workers in this territory of eastern Cuba.

Ronoldis Quiñones Ámita is a professor in the specialty of Sugar Machinery at the Ramón Ricardo Méndez Cabezón Polytechnic and he gives us some practical ideas to take into account.

How should the insertion of students be achieved?

“In order to achieve yield in a certain crop it is necessary to prepare the soil and the quality of the land, we have excellent relations with the colleagues at the central, they support us, they have given us everything we need for the students to be inserted there, they have put the specialists in function of the boys’ learning.”

How did the teachers react?

Our positive reaction to the call was immediate. I can assure you on behalf of the school director that you can count on us to revive the seed bank, the students first of all are revolutionaries and are clear about the situation the country is going through.”

Why revive the central?

Look, we cannot continue doing the same thing, we have to change because the Central represents a lot for Contramaestre and in a stage that I remember and I have told my students the Commander in Chief came to call it The Clock of the East, every year they would say on the 20th the plan is fulfilled and on the 18th there was the television with the news – last sack last night in América Libre. That filled us with pride.

Incorporating Empresa Agroindustrial Azucarera América Libre into the Cuban sugar industry is a priority for the Contramaestre sugar growers.
