This November 27, when the Elections of the Delegates to the Municipal Assemblies of People’s Power take place, all Cuba will be witnessing a genuine act of democracy. And the fact is that those elected by the people, through personal, direct and secret vote; as a whole summarize the prestige, merit, capacity and ideological firmness that should characterize a delegate.
In Santiago de Cuba, details are being finalized for next Sunday’s election. The territory has 2,603 polling stations and 374 of them will be located in private homes. The ballot boxes will be guarded by 20,960 pioneers and 2,794 students from pre-university and professional technical schools will work as collaborators.
Likewise, the preparation of the electoral authorities, especially 181 new ones, is being deepened, since those who used to perform this function were proposed as candidates for delegates; a sign of the recognition and value of those who today carry out the Cuban electoral process.
Of the pool of candidates to integrate the Municipal Assemblies of People’s Power, 67% are militants of the Party and the UJC, and more than 63% of the possible delegates were already nominated.
It is valid to recognize that the province arrives at this nomination process with 84.6% of the proposals solved, that is, 16,741 of the 19,781 that were collected in the stage. And the reasons for the non-solution of 2,658 questions were explained to the voters.
On November 27, the best and most capable men and women will be elected in Santiago’s neighborhoods and communities; men and women who, from these spaces, will become the representatives of the people, to intervene in the decisions that affect their constituents and to deal with their problems, complaints and opinions.
