There is meeting going. not an ordinary encounter, attended by people dressed in the three colors of the Cuban flag: red, blue, and white, expressing their decision to defend the Homeland in case of armed aggression, coming from anywhere. Thousands of Contramaestrians came, each clutching a pen in their hand as if it were a gun, and slid it across the blank sheet of paper to leave their signature as a permanent commitment to the Cuban nation.
In every workplace in the region, there was a swift, revolutionary, and patriotic response as people signed the document, and many, as they did so, saw in their minds the face of Fidel, whom we honor eternally because we are grateful. It was not simply a signature to fill a blank space; rather, at that moment, the will of the workers was being pledged for a just cause: the defense of the Homeland.
The moment thousands of men and women of this nation decided to sign the document that affirmed their courage in answering the call, convinced that through collective action they were also honoring Fidel on the centennial of his birth, they were securing the future of the country.
Today, our revolutionary and working people are navigating one of the most complex moments in Cuban history, facing the challenges of the present times, but with the hope that we will emerge victorious through the unity of all Cubans. We want peace, not war.
