Without wasting time complaining, farmers in the municipality of Contramaestre have faced difficult weather and resource shortages during the spring planting campaign, which is almost over. This has allowed plans to materialize, ensuring significant volumes of food for the final months of the year.
Under the concept of making the most of every day, the sporadic rain, and the scarce resources available, Contramaestre farmers have endured a challenging spring planting campaign, where the weather has not been in their favor, with increasingly erratic rainfall.
Specialists from the municipal agricultural department assure that after a difficult start with several failed harvests, especially of corn, due to the lack of rainfall, they have managed to recover their momentum, and the municipality is currently on track to plant more than 17,000 hectares planned for the period.
The commitment of the workers at the Laguna Blanca Agricultural Company amounts to 7,900 hectares to be planted, while at the América Libre Agroindustrial Company, the plan exceeds 8,500 hectares, accumulating the largest amounts of the municipal commitment.
Among the main actions, the planting of rustic and short-cycle crops has been boosted. The plantain program has received a significant boost with the launch of a thermal park, which has boosted accelerated seed production.
The Contramaestre farmers have boosted the use of bioproducts, animal traction, and the optimal utilization of the low levels of fuel allocated.
The spring season in this Santiago region is not a fluke; much effort and sacrifice are required to make it possible and thus guarantee food for the coming months.
