Promoting food production and nutritional education was the main objective of the second workshop in support of food sovereignty, held in the municipality of Contramaestre. The meeting was part of the initiatives of the international collaboration project Cooperative Territories, which responds to the Spanish foundation Mundubat.
Among the activities carried out, mention should be made of the debate on new local development projects and the preparation of an action plan to promote the operation of the current agreement, in which Contramaestre is one of the five municipalities involved.
Arcides García Carrazana, who is part of the Cooperative Territories working team, explained that the current phase consists of an evaluation of how the law has been implemented in different localities, in order to strengthen the productive processes from the municipalities and the people’s councils themselves.
Yudicel Durán Igarza, coordinator of the project in the municipality of Contramaestre, commented that the projections of this initiative are based on “empowering popular councils to achieve food sovereignty, taking into account the territory’s potential”.
Food sovereignty encompasses both the agricultural sector and other economic actors. In the municipality of Contramaestre, this process is enriched by the cooperation of the Cooperative Territories project, which favors the financing of various productive activities.
