Havana, May 25 (Prensa Latina) Cuba today concludes the popular exercise Meteoro 2025, which strengthens the nation’s preparedness and response capabilities to face natural, technological and health disasters.
The day before, the president of the National Defense Council (CDN) and of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, checked the updating of the measures for action in the face of events of various kinds that frequently hit the Caribbean island.
Accompanied by the chief of the National Civil Defense General Staff (Emndc), Major General Ramón Pardo, and other high-ranking officials of the country, the president specified by videoconference with provincial leaders urgent and necessary aspects to protect lives and material resources.
During the training, Pardo urged to check the status of compliance with the measures foreseen in the disaster risk reduction plans “emphasizing prevention, which will make it possible to increase the capacity of actions, response and recovery and minimize losses”, he said.
Later, as part of Meteoro 2025, the president of the CDN participated in the fire extinguishing demonstration exercise carried out in areas of the Yuri Gagarin Industrial Military Enterprise.
There, the Cuban president was shown the use of new technologies and fire extinguishing means.
Later, Díaz-Canel, accompanied by the vice-president of the National Defense Council, Salvador Valdés, visited the advanced mobile communications center, in charge of ensuring the exchange, concealment and processing of official information, according to the presidential website.
Likewise, in other areas of the exercise, they explained to the head of state about the use of unmanned vehicles, medical assistance vehicles and aerial means to support the confrontation of disaster situations.
