In order to strengthen Cuba’s preparedness and response capacities to face natural, technological and sanitary disasters, the Popular Exercise of Actions under Disaster Situations Meteoro 2025 will be carried out today and tomorrow at national level.
According to the National Civil Defense General Staff, the objectives are to assess the compliance status of the measures included in the disaster risk reduction plans, the forces and means for rescue and rescue actions involved in the response and recovery, in accordance with the provisions of Directive 1 For the management of disaster risk reduction in the Republic of Cuba, issued by the President of the National Defense Council in November 2022.
In addition, the measures to face a possible increase in the levels of infestation of the Aedes-aegypti mosquito and to increase the elimination of vector sources will be checked; the experiences of the response and recovery actions to hydrometeorological events, earthquakes, drought, among other situations, as well as the measures for the protection of the population, the economy and the non-state sector, among other actions, will be studied and implemented in the plans.
The means of communication in disaster situations will be specified, as well as the channels of information to keep the population oriented.
During these two days, theoretical and practical instruction will be provided, and the experiences of previous events will be generalized in order to strengthen the preparedness of decision-makers to respond to this type of situation.
