Seed multiplication is a decisive step in sustaining food production plans in Santiago de Cuba. In Contramaestre, a thermal park is currently being built for the accelerated production of seeds of tropical viands such as plantain and malanga. The enclave allows the sustained reproduction of high quantities of certified quality seeds, close to the productive base and with mutual benefits.
A local development project in the municipality of Contramaestre has given the green light to the construction of a thermal park for accelerated seed production of tropical viands.
Under the personal direction of this manager, the economic-productive project is taking shape. Of strategic importance for food production in the province of Santiago de Cuba and adjacent to the Las Guásimas solar park, it already has an infrastructure that ensures irrigation. The designed capacity will ensure the planting of six hundred hectares in each production.
As part of the plans to increase food volumes in Santiago’s soil, the province’s authorities have conceived this as an enclave that will also boost the planting of traditional crops.
An accelerated seed production park that is part of a more ambitious project that we will continue to report on in future issues.
