Inauguration of “Las Guásimas” Solar Park in Contramaestre

The Commander of the (Cuban) Revolution and Vice Premier Ramiro Valdés Menéndez presided over the inauguration of the La Guásimas solar farm in the municipality of Contramaestre on Tuesday, May 6.

The site was successfully synchronized to the National Electric Energy System, SEN, and has been supplying energy in a stable manner since April 30, when the last technical tests contemplated in the protocol for its start-up were carried out.

A little more than four months were enough for a dozen specialized companies and workers from all over the province to complete the work in which 42,588 photovoltaic panels and seven inverters operate for a generation capacity of 21.8 megawatts.

The electricity production of this facility will save 20 tons of fossil fuels per day.

During the inauguration of the energy enclave, more than 20 organizations and institutions that participated in the construction and assembly process were recognized. Special thanks were given to hundreds of Contramaestrians who, in successive mobilizations, contributed to the realization of the project.

The “Las Guásimas” solar farm is the first of its kind in the province of Santiago de Cuba, where two others of similar size and capacity will be built, as part of the Cuban state’s strategy to gradually recover the national electro-energy system.

Correspondingly, this is considered a symbol of the will and capacity of Cubans to move forward on this and all fronts.
