The May Day celebration once again summoned thousands of Contramaestrians and the response was unconditional. In the midst of great difficulties, but also with the conviction of a better future, the workers of this Santiago municipality defended the right to the social realization of a project that gravitates around the idea of social justice.
They represent the working class, it is not just any parade, they celebrate the first of May. The colors they wear on their clothes and in their hearts represent the redeeming spirit that accompanied their parents and grandparents in successive battles for independence and the construction of a social project in the midst of difficult conditions.
And it would not be news if around the event, starred by old people, children, young people, women and men, workers of all sectors, did not gravitate the idea of making possible, among all, a society of justice where the human being is first and foremost.
The vigorous human column crosses the summer air challenging the sun as if advancing towards the utopia that has encouraged them to rise up against vassalage and colonialism, the same utopia that has helped them to walk, not to falter in the collective attempt to make a better future.
Some bring their brows furrowed by the offense produced by the unjust blockade, the cynical media campaigns, the rigors of hard times. Others light up their eyes with hope and faith in the unlimited capacity to lift the nation with the effort of all.
No one lacks in their hearts the beating of the ideal, that force of which Fidel spoke 25 years ago, the only one capable of making possible the defense of the dreams of justice and freedom that dwell in every Cuban.
