National Blind Association in Contramaestre awards the winners of the contest José Cuevas Veranes in Memoriam

The National Association of the Blind (ANCI) held at the El Trópico de Contramaestre unit the award ceremony of the first edition of the Cuban popular music contest José Cuevas Veranes in Memoriam.

The event was attended by: Gladis Catalina Legón Pérez, who is a member of the national secretariat of ANCI, Efraín Borrero Montero and Eulices Pérez Suárez, president and vice president of the organization in Santiago de Cuba province, members of the municipal management of ANCI, contestants, members of the jury, affiliates of the organization and other guests.

The cultural moment was in charge of soloists and musical groups of ANCI in Contramaestre and of the local cultural house; who made it possible for those present to enjoy moments of relaxation and to listen to the musical interpretations of the contestants.

The winners in different genres of Cuban popular music were awarded prizes. First place in the Bolero genre went to the soloist Graciela Virgen García Despaigne, with the song “Cuevas está a aquí” by Ermileydis Tamayo Fuentes. Second place went to Eliosmar Martínez Ramírez, with the song “La puerta del amor” of his own inspiration, accompanied by the quintet Son del Turquino and third place went to Bladimir Fernández Alcántara with the song “Búscame” by Héctor Téllez.

In the Son genre, first place was shared between José Ángel López Yánez, with the song “Tú llegaste a mi vida” of his own and Juan Antonio Reyes Medel with the song “Guajiro Natural” by Polo Montañés.

Among the groups, first place went to the group Tradisón from Contramaestre with the song “El Cafetal”, second place to the quintet Son del Turquino, from the People’s Council of Los Negros, with the song “Macusa” by Francisco Repilado and third place went to the group ANCISON from the municipality of Songo La Maya, with the song “Amor a primera vista”.

Finally Gladis Catalina Legón Pérez, who is a member of the national secretariat of ANCI that attends to social and labor issues in the department of rehabilitation, employment, sports and recreation, expressed her gratitude to the Contramaestre organization for the tribute to José Cuevas Veranes, who dedicated a great part of his life to the work of the organization in this province.

“Remembering the work of the man who gave all his life to the association. If you were to ask my opinion about Cuevas, I would say that first of all he was a man of his time, he was a very Cuban man, very santiaguero, very professional and also, he was the man who taught the generations of elders to have a great sense of responsibility, to try to include ourselves in society, to be taken into account. Until his last moments his thoughts were for ANCI with a great sense of belonging. What you have done today must continue because Cuevas is an example to follow.
