60th anniversary of the millionaire sugarcane harvest movement celebrated in Contramaestre

Sixty years ago, the movement for a millionaire of the sugar harvest was consolidated in Cuba. That idea arose from the high yields of the manual cane cutting brigades, which throughout the country were producing astronomical figures with their machetes.

In the same place where this idea was born, in the town of Romana 7, in the Santiago municipality of Contramaestre, the main event took place to commemorate that 3rd of March 1965 and to recognize the men and women who sustain this labor progress.

Presided over by Marisa Álvarez Guerra, member of the National Secretariat of the Sugar Union, and Yaidin Jan Aguilera, general secretary of the union in the province of Santiago de Cuba, who presented the Jesús Suárez-Gayol award to workers who, with 20, 25 or more years of service, have maintained satisfactory and uninterrupted results in the sector.

Founders of the movement belonging to the América Libre and Dos Ríos companies were also recognized, as was the best support group, Azúcar de Contramaestre, who received congratulations from the National Secretariat of the Sugar Union, the Azcuba Group, the Party and the Government in the province.
