A year full of challenges for the inhabitants of the municipality of Contramaestre is coming to an end. Conditioned by the financial limitation in its main economic strength, agriculture, the territory received a hard impact that was only alleviated thanks to the creative resistance of the peasantry.
It was the beginning of 2024 and on February 24, in the same place where they were called to fight for the freedom of the homeland 129 years ago, hundreds of baireros representing the people of Santiago ratified the conviction of independence or death.
In spite of the serious limitations of essential resources such as fuels, lubricants and supplies in general, the agricultural sector in Contramaestre showed a dynamic of adaptation, which allowed it to consolidate in five areas of development and the productive pole of Bungo, which fulfilled its plans of self-sufficiency.
A highlight in the agricultural sector was the increase in areas devoted to popular rice cultivation, through an extensionist movement that is growing every day with leading farmers who are committed to this productive modality under agroecological conditions.
In the year that is ending Contramaestre saw the birth of a new mixed capital company, BioCubaCafé, which should contribute in 2025 important economic dividends and in the development of the coffee infrastructure of the territory. The two most important agricultural companies have definitely passed to local subordination.
The authorities of the people’s power in Contramaestre report that 82 percent of the voters attended the meetings of accountability of the delegate to his electors; 674 meetings of accountability were held here.
The assembly and start-up of the largest photovoltaic park for water pumping in the province, in the town of Baire stands out in the aqueduct works and in this direction in Contramaestre the works towards the change of the energy matrix increased at the end of this year.
Despite the shortage of supplies, the health sector in this Santiago municipality has the merit of having maintained basic services to the population in 2024, paying special attention to the Maternal and Infant Care Program, PAMI.
The city of Contramaestre celebrated the 111th anniversary of its foundation, which was dedicated to local musician Roberto Tejadilla. The day for the Cuban Culture Day had among the local personalities the intellectual Mario Durrutí and our popular festivities in the month of August counted with local groups in five dance areas.
The vacation period had the animation of artistic brigades, especially the Theatrical Crusade that reached almost all rural communities. Here we developed the literary events “Origins” and “Patria Chica”.
In this 2024, the highest leadership of the country accompanied the people of Contramaestrenses in the daily challenge of overcoming material difficulties, and encouraged, together with the local leadership, the search for solutions by making better use of the enormous potential of the territory.
A difficult but not impossible battle with which the hard-working and patriotic people of Contramaestre are preparing to start this 2025.
