For the first time ever, input and output economizers for thermoelectric power plant boilers are manufactured in Cuba from imported raw materials.

These products, designed to increase energy efficiency in thermal systems, will be destined to the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Thermoelectric Power Plant in Cienfuegos, according to a Cuban TV report.

Thermoelectric plants provide more than 60% of the power consumed by the nation, therefore, producing these parts and aggregates, with Japanese technology, represents a high financial and economic benefit for the country. It also contributes to mitigate the technological limitations in the base generation.

The industrial project is undertaken by specialized workshops of the Power Plant Maintenance Company (EMCE), in Havana, where the spare parts are made in order to assemble them in the thermoelectric power plant.

The collective, involved in the professional rigor required by production flows, manufactures 89 coils to guarantee maintenance during the February shutdown, said Tania Hernández Muñiz, head of the EMCE workshop.

The transition to sustainability seeks the conservation of resources and cost reduction, hence the need to manufacture this type of parts and aggregates, which were previously acquired abroad, at great expense.

In 2024, Unión Eléctrica expects to carry out more than 30 minor or partial operations in thermal blocks. The Ministry of Industry, the Revolutionary Armed Forces and the Ministry of Energy and Mines have made significant contributions to this project.
